Delhi is the main gateway to various tourist places

Qutab
Minar: Built in 1199, Qutab Minar is
one of the most popular landmarks in Delhi.
The Qutab Minar is located in Mehrauli. The
72.5 metres long monument has 379 steps to reach
the top. Qutab-ud-din Aibak started the construction
of Qutab Minar in 1199 but he died before completing
it. Later his son-in-law and successor completed
Qutab Minar. |

Red
Fort: Also known as Lal Quila, the
Red Fort is another important addition by Shah
Jahan on the landscape of Delhi. Shah Jahan
built the Red Fort in 1648. Today Red Fort has
special significance as the Prime Minister unfurls
the flag on Independence Day and address the
nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort. If
you wish to learn a lesson about the history
of Delhi, you can enjoy the 'Light and Sound
Show' in the evening at the Red Fort. |

Gate: Built as a memorial
to commemorate the 70,000 Indian soldiers killed
in World War I, India Gate was designed by Sir
Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1931.
The names of soldiers are inscribed on the arch
of this tower.

In
the centre of the arch stands an inverted rifle
and helmet and an eternal flame burns in honor
of the unknown soldiers. Sunset at India Gate,
when the arch and the fountains are illuminated
with colorful lights, is truly an exhilarating
experience. It also provides a spectacular view
of the Rashtrapati Bhawan. |

Lotus
Temple : Reputed as
the Taj of modern India, it exhibits a fine
example of the excellence of contemporary architectural
style. Built in 1986, it reaches a height of
more than 40m. The structure is made of pure
white marble in the shape of a half-opened lotus
and is surrounded by delicately manicured lawns.
Dedicated to the oneness of all religions and
mankind, its doors are open to everyone. |
